Ligonier Country Market Offers Unique ‘Mobile Advertising’ Opportunity for Local Businesses
Market’s Share-a-Bag Program Reaches Thousands of Shoppers for as Little as $1 Per Bag
During its 2017 season, the Ligonier Country Market distributed free recyclable shopping bags to market-goers each Saturday. The bags offered an extra helping hand so shoppers could carry home the farm-fresh produce, baked goods, hand-made crafts, and other locally produced goods they bought from the market’s 130-plus vendors.
But those red and white cloth bags carried away something else unique too — the names and logos of local businesses that purchased ad space on them through the market’s “Share-a-Bag” program. The reusable bags were such a big hit with shoppers that the Ligonier Country Market will offer the Share-a-Bag program again in 2018, giving local businesses another chance to participate in a one-of-a-kind “mobile marketing” opportunity. The market’s familiar scarecrow logo will be printed on one side of the bag, and the names of local businesses will be printed on the other — hence the Share-a-Bag advertising opportunity.
“We gave away nearly 5,000 free bags during our 2017 season,” said Cari Frei, the market’s executive director. “And by 8:30 a.m. each Saturday, we already had about 450 shoppers carrying them around the market.”
Advertising That Moves Not only were the reusable bags clearly visible each Saturday on the Loyalhanna Watershed Association Farm property off West Main Street and Route 30 in Ligonier — home to the market for many years. But also they were carried into nearby communities and into stores, local parks, and at youth sporting events, giving advertisers a lasting impact for their investment. Some bags even landed in the hands of world travelers: The market’s Facebook page featured a Jan. 10, 2018, post from one loyal shopper pictured with her Ligonier Country Market bag while standing in Piccadilly Circus in London, England.
“The Share-a-Bag program is a great opportunity for local businesses to reach thousands of potential customers for a fairly minimal investment — as little as $1 per bag,” Frei said. “We thank the local businesses that supported the market through the Share-a-Bag program last year, and we look forward to another successful campaign in 2018.”
Get Your Name on the Bag Local businesses and organizations have four price options to advertise on the reusable shopping bags for the 2018 market season:
- $150 as one of four advertisers per bag on 150 bags
- $300 as one of two advertisers per bag on 250 bags
- $1,000 as a sole advertiser on 400 bags
- $2,000 as a sole advertiser on 900 bags
Each sponsorship level offers additional benefits, ranging from the business’s name being included in the market’s monthly newsletter, to an opportunity to personally hand out the bags and the sponsoring company’s literature to market shoppers one Saturday.
The deadline to submit ad reservations and payments is Thursday, March 15.
